Explore the Vibrant Memories of a Spectacular Day

On a clear and beautiful September day, the SAFFA Festival, sponsored by Standard Bank, came alive at The Nunnery, filling the Isle of Man with the rich tapestry of South African culture and community. The festival grounds were bathed in sunshine, echoing with laughter, conversations, and the delicious aromas of traditional food on the weekend of South African Braai Day and Heritage Day, September 23rd 2023.

Highlights included:

Cultural Delights: From the sizzle of braaivleis to the sweetness of milk tarts and koeksisters, the festival was a feast for the senses.

Local is Lekker Market: Close to 40 makers, bakers, artisans, and pop-ups showcased their talents, offering unique treasures and crafts.

Kids Zone sponsored by Tax Consulting SA & Xpatweb: Kids of all ages revelled in cricket with Peter Kirsten, tag rugby with former All Black Mark Robinson, and a host of entertaining activities, including face painting, crazy golf, lawn games and a pop-up kids party.

Potjie Master Competition powered by Robinson’s Fresh Foods: The culinary creativity reached new heights in this competition, with Seaboard taking home the title.

National Anthems: The festival united in singing Arrane Ashoonagh Vannin and Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika, side-by-side in a symbol of unity and togetherness.

Distinguished Guests: Deputy Chief Minister Hon Jane Poole-Wilson and Mayor Cllr Natalie Byron-Teare graced us with their presence, celebrating the South African community’s contributions.

Screening of SA v Ireland rugby: The Garden Room came alive with green and gold spirit in a battle of the giants in the Rugby World Cup.
